Neil Holton Japanese Art

A fine and elegant model of a hound.

Seated on its rear, its front legs straightened meeting the ground. Its tail curled into a circle on the thigh. Its lean body gives the impression of an animal built for rapid acceleration.

The animals ribcage is partially visible with a trio of the bones apparent beneath the skin. The neck tapers and meets a head with a handsome face. The ivory milky, glossy and rich in patina. Eyes are inlaid in dark horn.

Anonymous. Probably Osaka, circle of Garaku. Late 18th Century.
