Shishi Koro

A fine small model of a shishi Koro. The object open mouthed, smiling broadly.

The legs are swirls. The tail arched and the position of the squat head makes the single horn meet at the tail. The mane radiating swirls which flank deeply excavated eyes, with the sockets inlaid in dark horn. The asymmetric himotoshi deeply excavated and the entrance hole ringed in green stained stag antler.

Signed: Koryu. Edo School. First half of the 19th Century.

The unrecorded artist clearly working in the manner of Hara Shumin studio.
